According to British media reports, in order to prevent safety hazards at home caused by child casualties, the British National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) introduced a draft, requiring every family in the UK with children under 5 years of age to accept the government-appointed staff to check the home furnishings, to provide a safety risk assessment.
Why did the UK introduce this design? The reason is that every year in the UK there are more than 2 million children under the age of 15 years old are injured in the home and no knowledge of safety. In fact, our children’s accident risk accidents are equally serious. Information shows that our children’s accidents at home (especially during the winter and summer holidays) account for more than half of all accidents. We held observations on the homes of more than 200 students in grades 1~4 and found that in many homes there are some unsafe factors that may cause danger.
British inspectors in the home inspection items are very detailed, the home windows, doors, closets, equipment in the kitchen, faucets, water heaters, stairs, etc. are included in the inspection. The inspector will focus on whether the aboriginal home is equipped with smoke alarms; medicine cabinets, windows, ovens are locked; the temperature of the water heater has been adjusted, the water released will not be too hot. After the inspection, the inspector will do a potential risk assessment of the home to give parents information and advice to prevent injuries to children. The following issues are important for families with children to focus on.
● Sofas, tables and chairs are placed against windows, so children can easily climb up to the windows through the sofas, tables and chairs, and a slight lack of attention may result in a fall from height. Therefore, families with small children, do not put sofas, tables and chairs placed against the window, or to install protective fences on the windows.
The adults at home will go away in the middle of cooking, watching TV or answering the phone for a long time. It is easy for children to run into the kitchen without adults paying attention to the situation, which may be dangerous. It’s a good idea for the cook not to leave the kitchen at will and to turn off the main switch after using the gas.
Home heaters and other appliances can also be dangerous if they are not powered up before people leave the house or go to sleep. In general, except for refrigerators, you should turn off the power of your appliances or set the automatic shut-off time before going out or going to bed.
● Some families have bottles and jars that are not labeled or have labels that do not match the contents, so check them frequently to keep them consistent.
It is also dangerous to keep lighters next to the bed, medicines and detergents in lower drawers and other places. It is a good idea to keep flammable items, medicines, and detergents out of reach of children.
