When we use air conditioners on a daily basis, we may notice that our air conditioners have a very large number of modes. The most common mode we use is probably cooling and dehumidification. When using dehumidification, people may feel that there is no difference between this mode and cooling. Is this really the case? I’m going to introduce you to the difference between refrigeration and dehumidification, as well as the similarities and differences between the work of refrigeration and dehumidification. So that you can use these two modes correctly.

Refrigeration and dehumidification principle of work

Refrigeration: The principle of refrigeration is the main unit of the Carnot cycle air conditioner hanging outdoors, mainly with compressor, heat sink, fan, the compressor compresses the refrigerant from the gaseous state into the liquid state when exothermic, by the heat sink, fan, heat dissipation, the refrigerant enters the room through the copper pipe, the copper pipe diameter becomes larger, the pressure decreases, the liquid refrigerant from the liquid state into the gaseous state, heat absorption to the surrounding environment, generating cold air. The cool air blown out is the result of the indoor air contacting the condenser (copper tube) and the heat being sucked away. Dehumidification function relative to the cooling function, the fan has been running at low speed, the compressor is on and off, the refrigeration system for intermittent refrigeration cycle, the majority of the cooling capacity for balancing the latent heat of the indoor air, that is, water vapor into condensate. Therefore, the dehumidification function of the air conditioner is more energy-efficient than the cooling function.

Dehumidification: In the process of refrigeration, humid air through the air conditioner evaporator temperature will drop significantly, the air humidity is in a state of supersaturation, excess water vapor in the form of condensate precipitation, condensation on the evaporator fins, that is, “condensation”, wait until the cooling mode to reach a certain equilibrium state, the air humidity is also reduced to a a certain level.

I. The same point of air conditioning cooling and dehumidification:

Air conditioning operation cooling mode, in reducing the air temperature at the same time must be removed at the same time water vapor; air conditioning operation dehumidification mode, in removing water vapor at the same time must be reduced at the same time air temperature; so whether refrigeration or dehumidification, reduce the air temperature and remove water vapor these two are inseparable. Whether cooling or dehumidification, indoor hot air through the air conditioning indoor unit heat exchanger, hot air in the water vapor is condensed into condensate at low temperatures, condensate through the drain to the outdoors; at the same time heat exchange after the cold air from the air conditioning outlet blowing out.

Second, air conditioning refrigeration and dehumidification of the different points

Refrigeration: to reduce the air temperature for the purpose, while removing water vapor. Select the cooling mode, cooling temperature and wind speed can be adjusted up or down. The air conditioner operates in cooling mode according to the manually selected temperature and wind speed to achieve the purpose of lowering the air temperature (while discharging condensate), and the cold air blown out is relatively strong.

Dehumidification: The dehumidification mode is selected for the purpose of removing water vapor and lowering air temperature at the same time, and the temperature and wind speed of dehumidification cannot be adjusted up or down. The air conditioner operates in dehumidification mode according to the automatically set low temperature and low wind speed to achieve the purpose of removing water vapor from the air (while blowing out cold air), and the cold air blown out is weak and soft. To remove water vapor for the purpose, while reducing the air temperature.

Summary: In the above article, I introduced the working principle of the cooling and dehumidification functions of the air conditioner. Although the two modes seem to give a very similar feeling, but their working principle is very different. At the same time, I also introduced you to the similarities and differences between air conditioning cooling and dehumidification. The biggest similarity between the two of them is the ability to get rid of water vapor in the air when they are in use. But the difference is still very big. The purpose of cooling is to reduce the temperature, and the purpose of dehumidification is to remove water vapor.
